I’m trying something new (again) today.
Writing has been my anchor ever since I left my teaching career in 2024. Not only does it help me to process my thinking, but it also provides an avenue to connect with like-minded communities.
Along the way, I’ve tried to extend my sharing into video, but if I’m honest, the “friction” was just too high. Even with AI tools, the effort-to-output ratio wasn’t there, and the results just weren’t satisfactory.
However, yesterday I discovered a format and workflow that I could sustain. Crucially, I actually enjoyed it!
I ran my latest post — Taking a Loss on TTD & Reallocating to ISRG, MSFT, and NFLX — through an AI audio engine to create a podcast.
The result?
An interesting and longer than expected 20-minute discussion between two analytical AI hosts dissecting my thesis.
It was a surreal experience.
It’s not just a regurgitating of what I wrote.
The engaging dialogue between the “hosts” actually provided new perspectives for the writer (that’s me). That’s really cool!
If you have some time during your holiday commute or while doing chores, give it a listen. It’s certainly more engaging than listening to a monologue!
Podcast Highlights & Key Takeaways
If you still prefer to read, here’s some highlights and new takeaways from the episode.
The “Pain” of the S$10.6k Loss: The episode starts with the “visceral” reality of seeing a 68% loss on The Trade Desk (TTD).
They discussed the psychological trap of the Sunk Cost Fallacy and why most investors “freeze up” or delete their brokerage apps rather than making a cold, calculated cut.
This is a look at the “anatomy” of a pivot — how to stop praying for a bounce and start acting on reality.
The “Trojan Horse” & “Digital Toll Booths”: The hosts break down the three companies I reallocated that capital into:
- Intuitive Surgical (ISRG): Why the 84% recurring revenue model acts like a “razor and blade” business that is actually strengthening despite GLP-1 fears.
- Microsoft (MSFT): A look at the “20% clearance rack” opportunity and why their massive AI CAPEX is a long-term moat, not a short-term burden.
- Netflix (NFLX): Why their discipline in avoiding the “debt trap” of sports bidding was actually a massive win for shareholders.
The conversation ends on a vital lesson for any retail investor: Untether your ego from your past decisions.
Whether it’s a portfolio, a project, or a habit, we all have a “Trade Desk”— something we are holding onto simply because we already paid for it.
This episode is about finding the courage to cut the dead weight and reallocate that energy into quality.
What’s your “Trade Desk”? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below or over on the YouTube channel.
